Okay,
so you're skeptical. But many of these recipes would
impress the most discerning dinner guests. Easy to
prepare and healthful. And, they taste great.
HOW DO YOU EAT TEMPEH?
Tempeh is a versatile meat substitute that
can be sautéed, grilled, deep fried, steamed, grated, baked
or micro waved. Some people even like it toasted in a toaster
or eaten plain right out of the bag. Its firm texture allows
it to be sliced very thin which works best for stirfrys.
Unlike tofu which tends to fall apart, Tempeh holds together
even if skewered on a shish kabob stick and cooked over the
grill. Tempeh can be used to replace meat in just about any
recipe.
TEMPEH RULES OF THUMB
- All Turtle Island Tempeh is pre-steamed at
our plant so it will be more recipe ready for you.
- All of the following recipes can be made
with any style of Turtle Island Tempeh. We listed our favorites,
but don't be afraid to be creative. We haven't tried every
recipe with every product.
- Marinating is the key step in preparing good
Tempeh. Again, be creative. Lemon juice, sherry, mirin
and pineapple juice are all great, low sodium flavor enhancers.
- Cutting Tempeh into thin, small cubes or
strips, or grating it will insure that marinade flavors
penetrate the product. Each recipe shows you what type
of cut or grate will work best.
